For 2014, Fall is finally here. The color of the leaves are changing, football is in full swing and cooler temperatures have arrived. For Gauntlet, I’ve made tremendous progress by completing a scenes’ visual effects, established a hired hand for the sound effects design, and launching my new product line for purchase. So let’s get you caught up!
As you glance at the screenshots, I took a good solid week in designing and executing my visual effects (VFX) in one of the later scenes. There were over fifteen VFX shots planned. I had an awesome time learning new techniques from popular tutorial based websites and also creating some of my own. Within the week I’ll post this particular scene for only the actors and crew to watch. However, if you’re amazed in these stills, send me an email and I’ll forward you the link with the passcode for you to view as well.
As time moves on, I’m noticing more and more work that needs to be complete with this film that I’m at the point I am in need of help. Step in Mr. Shane Sorensen. I’ve reached out in need for sound effect design (SFX). When creating visual effects, more than likely a sound has to be added to it as well. I figure that as I move forward, I’d rather utilize my creative time by continuing to create the VFX while the SFX can be created by someone else. Hence, Mr. Sorensen. Shane has an awesome background in the film industry and has worked on projects such as Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables 2 and Nicolas Cage’s Stolen. I am thrilled that he’s accepted the position and can’t wait to see his work come to life in Gauntlet. You can view Shane’s IMDb account here.
Finally, I’m launching my first line of memorabilia for purchase on my website. Thanks to the awesome folks at RedBubble, I have the amazing opportunity to create my artwork for the film to sell as T-Shirts, Posters, and tablet cases to name a few. I’m currently creating a landing page here on JEL’s website that will direct customers to my RedBubble page. I’m opening this line with two T-Shirt designs and a movie poster for Gauntlet. This will also be an incentive for potential investors when I plan to help finance the rest of the film using either Kickstarter or Indieagogo in the coming years. Stay tuned for that!
So as you can see, I’ve been very productive since Production Log 15 post back in late May. To top it off, while all of this was going on, I quietly began my training for Autodesk Maya. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I’ve finally embarked on the epic odyssey known as 3D graphics. Stay frosty as I continue to iron this project out!
“One of the great things about being a director as a life choice is that it can never be mastered. Every story is its own kind of expedition, with its own set of challenges.”
