Production Log 11

May 1, 2013Blog, GauntletJeff Loehrke

So to be honest, the past two months haven’t been that “eventful” to our fans, hence no production logs but this Production Log will be somewhat eventful.  Although it’s been VERY busy on my end for sure.  As the months dwindle down to July, I’ve been hard at work in locking up shooting schedules, rehearsals, costume planning, and fight choreography.  The actors are starting to get really excited as we’ll all have the opportunity to work together again.

I’ve learned from my hiccups from the previous shoot and are applying those fixes to my upcoming shoot in July.  One of those fixes is hiring a DP.  Lawrence Marshall has signed on to be our Director of Photography and I couldn’t be happier.  Larry’s credits and experience range from all over the place but his focus is camera, no pun intended.  One of the films he did was being an Assistant Camera on Fate Accompli.  He currently wrapped up production as a 1st Camera Assistant on the indie film Chrysalis which won’t be out until later this year.  Larry brings a sharp eye to the shoot which will be an improvement from last August.

Being artists, I also like to showcase or relay information of our fellow artists/friends in our business.  Below are two links of fellow filmmakers whom we love and support.  Botch is a short film that was created by Sean Cruser, Co-Founder of Burning Shade Productions and was our classmate back in college.  Paris In Winter is a short film by Stephanie Gardner, friend we met in Washington D.C. last year.  Stephanie just wrapped production on her film and is currently in post production.  Both shorts were filmed with the RED cameras.

With two months left before the shoot, this will be our last post until then.  My production book continues to get bigger as the film becomes a reality on each progressing day.  I hope you still check back after our shoot in July to see our production photos.

“My tendency as an actor was to correct people, was to say, ‘What if we tried it this way, what about if we tried that way?’  That’s terrible habit for an actor, but that’s a good habit for director.  So I became a director.”

– David Mamet (Glengarry Glen Ross, Ronin, Hannibal)
