Wow. 2014 is done and here we are already a couple of weeks into the new year. It’s absolutely crazy to think of how much we have accomplished in 2014 that we’re just amazed on how fast the year has went. As you can witness for yourselves in our ’14 Reel, we have taken a huge leap forward in our projects compared to 2013. Our accomplishments also include:
- New interactive and responsive website
- Gauntlet Teaser released
- Shape Animation plus plugins of Plexus 2 and TypeMonkey
- Completed over 19 different courses on Lynda.com
We’ve been stating it all throughout the year that we have grown substantially in 2014 that we honestly believe that we’ve been established for even more success this year. We’ve mapped out what we want to accomplish and to experience in our career as we continue to grow in motion graphics/VFX. We like to present our three 2015 goals:
Learning Website: Tutorials
- Not only do we want our site to become an inspirational asset for fellow indie filmmakers in the VFX community, but we also want it to be a hub of learning and spreading ideas to other artists. In doing so, we aim to do an After Effects Video Tutorial every two months. These tutorials won’t be displaying outstanding creative techniques that the web is already highly saturated with, we just want to show basic, standard projects that are the most common where folks might have a hard time with. The tutorials will be called P.A.T. = Painfully Average Tutorials.
3D Modeling: Autodesk Maya
- Since the inception for our sci-fi film Gauntlet, we wanted to dive into the 3D world of animation and design. We have been blown away with the possibilities that other filmmakers and digital artists have created in their projects that we yearned to know how that magic was made. Our goal is to take the whole year to understand the modeling basics, character rigging, and the compositing tools in Autodesk Maya and how it interacts with After Effects. Resulting that we’ll be creating the world of Gauntlet‘s different 3D sets that takes place in the film, which will include the stadium arena, city top battle scene, gaming room, Suriv’s domain, along with others.
Video: Gauntlet Trailer
- This is the most ambitious goal that we have on this list and you’re probably thinking that it might be the easiest. Learning Maya will take time with lots of mistakes and learning curves on the robust pipeline program. However we need something to aim for in order to be consistent in our plans to learn Maya enough to use our live action footage shot on green screen to be inserted in the 3D world. Depending on how that whole extensive process goes will determine if we’ll be able to release an official Trailer by Christmas 2015. It’s always good to have something to chase for it will keep you honest to yourself and hungry enough to accomplish it.
Here’s to another year!
Keep filming!
